A Google search for "pick-up point philately glossary" comes up empty. I'm not saying that is definitive, but it is suggestive. I.e., suggests that the term is idiosyncratic. Too bad it has detracted from the purpose of the post. Perhaps referring to the points the arrows point to as "points of interest" and re-asking the questions would get the thread back on topic.

As in:
Quote:
On parent scan I've added arrows pointing points of interest.

#1 point of interest upper left corner on the "U" of U.S., maybe too much ink and left a blog of color on the "U". Second, there are lines on the "U", do not know if this is an ink pull or something else.

#2 point of interest bottom right figure, maybe over inking again, with a blog of ink.

#3 point of interest extended relief from ladder into the white margin, not the result of over inking.

Comments?

Comments? No, but a question. Are we flyspecking here?

In my posts, I always use the phrase "area of interest" and I haven't had any discussion problems. I usually zoom into the "area of interest", and add an arrow or circle, if needed. So using the phrase "pick up point" or PUP, seems a little odd for me.

HOWEVER, what do people think of the original question about the oddities in this stamp?

There is a novel idea. Let's talk about the stamp. I honestly don't think it is anything other than stray ink. Now, if you can find another one of these puppies with the same PUPies then we would have something to go on. It could be a constant variety of another sort other than a DT. It just doesn't look like a DT to me.

By the way (BTW), in my work/collecting, I call PUP's, plating marks, and so do a lot of other people. I don't think it is important what they are called or what you call them.
