I recently acquired the cover shown below and a past owner made a notation (R.E 24-3 Q!) that I believe suggests a re-entry on the affixed KEVII 2c booklet stamp. If I'm interpreting the notation correctly, I can only assume the re-entry is in the line work in the top spandrels and the grid lines around CANADA POSTAGE. Thoughts?
I do see re-entry doubling in the background spandrel lines above the crown in the Upper left corner. Don't know what the notation means. You could find someone with the Marler book on the Edwards. This may shed some light.
I have the Marler book on the Edwards, but, sorry to say, cannot find any numbers that equate to the one on the cover that you show. Possibly, the previous owner may have had his / her own version of reference numbers??
If you don't mind me asking, how are the 2c booklet stamps in Marler's book numbered? I saw some screen shots of other pages in the book that seemed to catalogue the various types of the regular issue 1c and 2c with the same kind of format (minus the letter portion)...
jjmclell, this is a difficult question to answer because in the Marler book there is only a small section on the booklets and he just describes that they were issued in Plates #1 to 13. He states that dots were found in the panes and that's about it. The rest of the information is on the sheet stamps and the imperforate issues.
The study of the Edward stamps is quite complicated in some areas. Sorry I can't give you a more concrete answer.
Thanks Bujutsu. I emailed Ralph Trimble and he kindly responded by confirming that the stamp image was re-entered in the area identified above and that the notation may be a reference to an old numbering system he used on his website for the 2c KEVII's, which he has since reorganized. Comparing to other images of this stamp, I'd say that doubling is visible amongst the gridlines around CANADA POSTAGE, on the diagonal lines above the king's head, on the dots on the king's head, and on the horizontal lines in the upper left spandrel.
