Actually, in the spectrum of grading, a grade of "Good" is probably only slightly high (seriously). A Currency note graded Good is an absolute dog. Could have pieces missing, tears, etc.

Uncirculated
Almost Uncirculated
Extra Fine
Very Fine
Fine
Very Good
Good
Fair
Poor

From the IBNS grading standards:

Quote:
GOOD: A well worn and heavily used note. Normal damage from prolonged circulation will include strong multiple folds and creases, stains, pinholes and/or staple holes, dirt, discoloration, edge tears, center hole, rounded corners and an overall unattractive appearance. No large pieces of the note may be missing. Graffiti is commonly seen on notes in G condition.

FAIR: A totally limp, dirty and very well used note. Larger pieces may be half torn off or missing besides the defects mentioned under the Good category. Tears will be larger, obscured portions of the note will be bigger.

Yeah, but that's not a currency note.

It's a meat inspection stamp.

This is the normal definition of "good."

You're splitting hairs, Jim. Collectibles use different terminology than normal conversation.

I agree.

However the seller is not stating the grade.

He is stating the condition.

Those are still two different things, aren't they?

Semantics.

I know you enjoy tarring and feathering ebay sellers you consider clueless, but this one isn't as far off the mark as you think...

The mouse that worked on it would probably grade it "tasty".

Ok. Adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, nouns, etc. are all just "words."

Here's a good one I just ran across:

'Part perf sound but for being torn off'.

Ugh. Even if it weren't missing parts of the design, I guess the short perfs at the right are part of being "sound". Seller must come from the PSE school of stamp grading...

No, no, the seller here* means "sound" as in quiet or low volume.

The opposite, of course, is "cacophonous."

Jim

* or hear I guess...
