I have a 8 cent Historic Preservation stamp with a normal Mr. Zip on the front, but the stamp also has a Mr. Zip ghost image on the back the appears to be doubled. There are partial images off the front as well. What would this be called besides an EFO? The stamp was released 10/28/71 and should be tagged but I have not checked yet. Can someone take a look and advise me? Thanks S

Hi Sharon. It looks like st-off to me, here a sheet of still wet ink was under your sheet. The reason for a double image may be the sheet was moved? One reason for my diagnosis is the set-off visible on two or three of the other stamps

Looks like a storage issue ... several blocks stored pressed together in a high humidity environment and getting lightly stuck together - then unstuck leaving some ink behind.

I'm with Peter = setoff. The reason for the doubled appearance is one "image" you are seeing from the back is the image on the front showing thru the paper and the setoff image is shifted slightly.

I agree with John Becker on this one.

@ John Becker

This exact same type of reaction happens in my kitchen when I leave loaves of bread on my counter in the summer. The bag will stick to the counter, and you peel it off, and the printing from the bag has been transferred to the countertop. I imagine the same thing happened here, if someone had them just tossed in a box in their basement.
