Hello All

I have a couple of questions about the three 3 cent stamps below.
I know they are not worth anything but I just want to place them in the correct location in my book.
I have been to the StampSmarter web site ( which is a great site....thank-you )
but I still cannot tell if these stamps have the secret mark or not. ( to much dark green )
And I most definitely can not tell hard grayish from soft porous paper.
Can someone please tell me which Scott number stamps these are. ( left and center )

Also, the stamp on far right is an off color. It has no contrasting white like the other two.
The lettering and facial features have no white at all. the stamp itself is just many different shades of green. What is the cause of this ?
And the same question, is it marked and what is the paper type.

Thanks
htx

Htx,
The first stamp from the left is Scott 184, soft paper. It is soft paper because the paper matches the center stamp which is Scott 207. Scott 207 is always on soft paper. You can tell the 207's from other catalog numbers because the the green shading line around the oval with Washington's face is thinner than other printings.
Hold up the center stamp and the the stamp on the right to a bright light source. the center stamp will have an appearance of news paper. If the stamp on the right looks the same in appearance it is a Scott 184 if it shows more light and seems brighter it it is a Scott 158. They are the only choices for the third stamp since there is the secret mark which is found as a heavy shading line bellow the upper ribbon on the left side of the stamp found at the bottom. I hope this was not too confusing.

Hello Vinman

Thank-you for your informative and helpful reply.
Although I did have to read it more than once...ha, ha
But after applying what you said I can see you are correct.
The stamp in scan #1 , far right (also scan #4 & #5 ) did indeed shine much more brightly than the other two. So I will mount them in my book with the numbers you suggested.
Thanks again.

Does anyone have any info on why the far right stamp is all green ( even the front of the paper is green ). This stamp has no white, but a light shade of green where the white should be ( such as the lettering ). Any opinions would be appreciated.

htx

But the pref tips are not.
Incompletely wiped plate leaving thin ink film is my first thought.
