I know modern self-adhesive US stamps can't be soaked off paper like ordinary; but what about self-adhesive stamps from other countries?

be very careful, ALWAYS test with a damaged stamp or a stamp which you do not mind losing. Some are simply best left on paper since trying o remove them damages them. There are several threads on this subject if you use the search function on this site. Or you can check out the video located at the bottom of this page

I no longer bother with trying to remove self-adhesives from paper. I just trim the paper neatly with a mount cutter.

And if the gum is still on the back of the stamp, baby powder makes it easy to remove

Pure Citrus air freshener is my favorite. Soak, peels right off. I then use a credit card on a hard surface and wipe off the adhesive on the back of the stamp. I tried Bestine and I found Pure Citrus worked better, and smelled much better.
