Here are the last stamps I have to show.

These are more of the Alexandria thimble postmarks which are favourites of mine.

ALEXANDRIEN: Alexandria (x3):

I've skipped over the various postmarks of Constantinople and also the later stamps used in the three post offices in Crete (CANEA, CANDIA and RETTIMO) as I need to spend more time to sort out what I have.

Can anyone recommend any other references on these stamps and/or their postmarks? My main concern is with forged postmarks and I assume there are quite a few amongst the stamps I've shown here.

We've seen here how the GÖREAU postmarks are bogus but forged postmarks from real post offices are a much bigger problem.

If anyone can share information on how to identify faked/genuine postmarks on these stamps I'd be delighted to learn from it whether this relates to the examples I've shown or not.

Thanks again Michael for creating this thread. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Nigel, I'm totally blown away by your exhibit of postmarks! Kind of a relief that you're done as one of the seven sins was starting to get the better of me Thanks for sharing, very inspiring

Can't help on the fake subject, but I will be interested to see if anyone else can. I purchased a group of Alexandrien earlier, and hope they are genuine....

Thanks Blaamand.

I have a small group of these stamps with perfins:

E O B - Establissements Orosdi Bank in Smyrna (x2)

P. M. - Paul Milberg in Smyrna

W.B.V. - Wiener Bank Verein in Smyrna (reversed and sideways)

I found this information just now in a fantastic display on Austrian Levant perfins by Vladimir Munzberger on the Perfins Club web site:

http://www.perfins.org/the-perfins-...rian-levant/

It has lots of much nicer examples including many beautiful covers showing the perfins in context.

I strongly recommend this as a reference.

Rod - Nice stamps!
Shades are often frustrating. The stamps at right are definitively paler than the other one - and maybe slightly more reddish?
