Found this in a collection that I acquired for Fiume stamps, cancellations etc. The collection had a lot of early Italian issues that has tempted me into extending my collection to Italy - did I need an excuse? However, most of the stamps are readily identifiable from the SG catalogue that I have but this one is strange. As you can see it has a clear 'cut' across the middle of the stamp. Very odd...

Thanks perf12. That pointed me in the right direction. I found a couple of auction sites with images of the stamp. I now know it's Sassone 14s, Bol:IT 68C and has commanded eye-watering auction prices! This leads me to think that my one is not the real thing. More to follow...

You may wish to contact Mr. Tony Clayton, an Italian specialist.

Please post back your results, if you do.

I'm a bit late in this thread as perf12 already has done his magic Anyway, I guess it is relevant and interesting to see what Sassone (2014) has to say about this stamp:

Our dear friend Mr. Google translate is ready to assist if required.

@astolatim - Regardless what the expert say - that is a great discovery, congratulations - I hope it is genuine

Thanks Blaamand...I know I should have bought a Sassone a long time ago - now I have - and it should arrive in the next few days. Being a pessimist when it comes to the discovery of rare stamps I will assume it is a clever forgery until I can get an expert to look at it. It's not in the best condition, but if it is real I would be happy to get a small fraction of the Sassone catalogue price for it...
