Here is one that I am having trouble with. It has a clear plating mark that should make it easy but I have been unable to find the mark on any stamp in the first 4 plates. I am pretty sure it is plate 1 late but the mark is nowhere to be found. The best match so far is 65L1L and 30R1L. But neither have the plating mark I am looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

jaxom, try 23L1L. I have two copies (both in multiples) that show a very similar but not absolutely identical series of dots. Otherwise, the top recut and position of the guide dot are a match.

Thank you Dudley. I think you have the match. The top cut line at left goes real far down. I could not even find one that went that far down. Not sure how I missed 23L1L. Neinken only shows one dot at lower left, The Franklin Archive does not even mention the dot but I can almost the the 3 dots on their copy.

Here is an "A" relief stamp that I think I have identified as 54R1L.
I was able to match the recut top and bottom lines.
Confirmation would be appreciated.
I wonder how useful it would be to make charts of the recut lines?

I believe you are correct, jaxom. I have a 53-55R1L strip of three that confirms your plating (position 54R1L in this strip does not show those dots under the C of CENTS).

Dudley, does your 54R1L show the crecent mark in orn M? It is an early only print mark. It seems that later prints show a diagonal white line and white spot in that area. I was not sure about the dots at the center bottom. I did not see them on other copies. Maybe those are late print only? What do you think about high res recut line chart?

I spent a few minutes comparing this to Doporto's site 54R1L, and it sure appears to be a perfect match. The bottom recut is an exact match, with the recut coming up a bit under the E of CENT. The visible part of the top recut matches, and the dot in the O of POSTAGE matches well.

jaxom, that mark is not visible on my copy. I think a hi-res chart of recuts would be most valuable--many examples in the Doporto archive do not show complete recut lines.

The hard part on a recut chart is finding high res images that show top and bottom. I am having a hard time finding images as it is. Not many low value plated copies are sold at auction.

Hmm, the more I think on it, the high res images would take up too much space. Maybe a PDF format might work.

Here is a nice one that I got in today.
I plate it as 6L1L.
It almost got the top guide dot.
But there are a lot of plating marks on this one that match.
Relief T, not recut at top, double recut "EC" at bottom.
A nice addition.

Here is one that I have identified as 84R1L.
Since it a relief B and recut "E-E", that only left 7 choices: 21L, 26L, 41L, 70L, 90L, 24R and 84R.

Here is the nice corner piece that I just acquired.
I plated it right away as 98-99-100L1L.
They are beautiful copies showing the plating marks clearly.
Can anyone identify the city on the postmark?
