dudley - Thanks for posting that. I had not noticed the centerline doubling there. It looks like they got a bit fast and loose with making the centerline there. |

tx, according to the text of the Cipolla exhibit the center line of Plate 1 early was recut, along with all the other recutting done to produce Plate 1 Late. I had not realized this before I acquired this item. The doubled center line is thus the equivalent of the "split top line" found on many of the individual recut positions on Plate 1 Late. |

Yes, you are correct. It is interesting, the finer line you can see is definitely the old PL 1E centerline, which was finely ruled, and quite familiar.
I find it interesting that they bothered to recut the centerline. The stamp positions, which had worn notably, I understand. But the centerline? I guess, while they were at it ..... |

Update: I believe the photo I posted of 80L1L is actually 90L1L (double recut at bottom). I have another example with center line also showing this doubling that is clearly 90L1L. I will post the two together after I scan the second one. |

Dudley, does that mean that you don't have a complete left pane of plate 1 late? |

Here's a companion piece to the 10L1L I posted earlier: 1-2-3R1L with layout dot and center line. |
