I have a large remounting project head and decided to try saving money buying 'seconds' of Showgard mounts so sent a trial order to one of the 5-6 dealers selling these. One pack was just fine, the other not so much. The 50 mount strips in the pack were all 'wavy'- rippled as you can see sometimes with Showgards. One reason I usually buy Scott mounts.
I have emailed the seller about mailing them back. Is this understood to be acceptable when buying these?

I purchased some old howid shawfix ones that were all rippled as well. I just kept them and they are a lot harder to make them stay stuck on the pages. I have to hold them mount down for a good 30 seconds to a minute which is extremely time consuming when faced with a big project. This isn't acceptable, and mostly caused by the way the seller stored his items (Excess Heat and Humidity can cause this). I would assume that the seller would let you return them, but if not, I'm sure someone would be able to buy them from you at a discounted rate if you don't want them so that you don't lose too much money.

If I were buying mounts as seconds, I would assume that the chief reason they are labeled/sold as such is because of bends or waves. So, as a seller, I would probably be miffed if a person wanted to "pick and choose" or return them. I don't use showgard mounts because of the waves.
I have bought used mounts on several occasions, and there has been no problem with them. A glue pen makes them as good as new. These mounts are hard to find, however, and you are limited by sizes available. |

Stamps1962 The seconds I have purchased (5-6 purchases over the last few years) simply had a few scuffs and scratches. I would not be happy with ones that you describe. Don |

I have recently purchased 7 Kg of used from Canada. All were fine, I know the ones you mean, I have had them also, they are not quite as "black" as others.
I agree with Bookbndrbob, I wouldn't argue, just employ a Uhu stick for paste.

Just heard from the seller, he is mailing me a replacement pack.
Hope they are not as bad as the ones I got. I think this is my last venture into this territory. |

Replacements received, they are better, but still look wrinkled. I am using them, they look better than I thought they would, but still plan to avoid Showgard seconds. I think this what you get with these, mostly.

I ordered some Showgard seconds and I did not really see any issues. The savings was not that great. |

Perhaps a scan could be uploaded showing these "waves." I haven't used Showguard seconds, so don't know what is being discussed here. I do use regular Showguard mounts exclusively. |

Wrinkled or wavy mounts compromise the entire use of the mount. That's like buying a new tire with a hole already in it. When a seller sells you "seconds" it's supposed to mean something is wrong that does not interfere with its use like a pulled thread in a shirt or a shoe with a scuff in the leather -- not something that prevents you from wearing it. Usually the problem is cosmetic.
I've purchased many blank pages as "seconds" but they were simply pages with a few small ink smudges, printing that was lighter than normal, that sort of thing, which didn't interfere with their use. But if they had come with the mounting holes ripped so they wouldn't stay in the binder, that would not be acceptable. I once received a couple of packs of blank page "seconds" so smudged with ink they were useless for mounting stamps. I sent them back, and the seller refunded my money. Probably threw them away, too. Who sells wrinkled mounts? |

Waves in mounts can be found in various degrees. For me personally, any waviness is unacceptable. That is why I stopped buying Showgard mounts many years ago. Why pay more for an inferior product?
In all fairness, Showgard may have, or probably has solved this manufacturing problem. I have never had a problem with waves in Prinz or Scott mounts, so there is no reason for me to go back and pay more for Showgard mounts. |

I have several packs of Showgards with the waviness and was the primary reason I use Scott/Prinz. I did buy some seconds recently and they did not exhibit the waviness. |
