Unfortunately, sellers like these are one of the problems for real sellers. Someone inherits a collection, goes to ebay and starts seeing ridiculous listings like these, then gets a real offer from a dealer and immediately feels they are being ripped off. Obviously, if this single stamp is worth $80,000 then the offer of $200 for the entire collection MUST be from a fraudster, right? We may shake our heads or even get a chuckle out of some of these absurd listings, but in the long run, they are hurting everyone. |

Maybe ebay should charge 1% of the asking price as a placement fee for the ad, sell or not. See if they will pay $2,000 to place that fake ad. Or we should be able to flag ads as fraudulent. Maybe if 20 people flag it, the ad is removed. Let the collectors police the ads. |

One would think that ebay at the very least could identify and review more vigorously listings that meet a certain dollar threshold. The burden would be much less than scrutinizing millions of items. For example if a stamp listing is $50,000 or more it should stand out as being not the norm and get a bit more attention. |

Forget the bogus listings, I would happy if they would just vet their accounts better. You know, like disallowing a person from having 40-50 or more accounts. Or perhaps not allowing previously removed sellers from popping back up 2 weeks after they have been banned. The sad truth is that there is ZERO vetting of any account holder at ebay. You could be buying from convicted criminals, previously banned sellers, or the devil himself. Don |

You guys missed the fine print. The gentleman is running a charity. 25% of the purchase price goes to the Children's Heart Foundation. |

I looked at his/her feedback history. I didn't see anything philatelic, looks like clothes, mostly. They know nothing about stamp values.
Wouldn't you think before embarrassing themselves like this, they'd at least look up the value? How hard is that? |

I wouldn't be opposed if ebay supplemented the star system with a social media-like ability to post public comments to a listing that others could read during an auction. It would certainly provide for interesting reading and allow the community to police itself. While it could be misused, buyers and sellers could get a reality check along the way. To keep it from being misused, they could charge a $1 for each comment. I'd cheerfully pay a dollar to leave a comment on this posting... |

A fellow identifying himself as the new Category Manager for stamps contacted me recently and asked me to participate in a promotion he was running. I agreed but added that I'd like to talk to him about some of the ridiculously over priced listings in stamps because I thought they damaged the credibility of the whole category. He never responded.
I'd like to see a limit of $1000 BIN or less for anyone with less than 100 stamp sales. |
