I received these two Inland Revenue stamps from a Hipstamp seller as free extras in my purchase of NF C15. I know nothing about Canadian Province revenue stamps and they are not listed in either my Unitrade nor Scott catalogues. A quick internet search indicated they are NFR2 and NFR3 and showed selling prices well beyond that for any other gimme I've received. I'd like to get an idea of the market for these and a fair asking price. This will allow me to decide whether I need to contact the seller on Hipstamp and offer them back to him, put them up for sale or offer them here for free. Thanks, Terry

Hi Terry You will not find these in Scott's or the Unitrade Catalogues. They are listed in the E.S.J. van Dam Catalogue of Canadian Revenues. Before you decide to give them away free, be aware that they catalogue at $110.00 and $30.00 respectively. I will gladly take them for free lol Hope this helps? Chimo Bujutsu |

Thank you for the information. I've posted them on stamps2go for $80 and $17 respectively. If they sell I'll have to consider whether to share with my friend from Hipstamp.

Maybe the seller sent them by mistake? That once happened to me on ebay. I returned the goods and the seller reimbursed me for postage. |

Quote: Maybe the seller sent them by mistake? No, he clearly stated in an enclosed note that they were a gift. The came from a WW collection he broke down for sale. Just a case of not knowing what he had. Terry |

Just to let you know, the prices I gave you were catalogue values and not selling prices, and, they were taken from my edition (2009) of the E.S.J.van Dam catalogue and there is now another edition out. They come out every 8 to 9 years, plus or minus.
Cheers to all

Bujutsu: thanks for the follow up. I based the pricing on comparables I was able to find offered by various sellers.

Walsh's Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue (2016 edition) has these two stamps. (As an aside, Walsh' recently won several awards for an exhibit on this issue).
These stamps are from July 1898, engraved with no watermark and 12x12 perf.
You have R2 (NSSC #)--the 10cent, red brown color and has a listed value at auction of $45 +/-, perhaps less. If you had it on the original document, it would be $550+!
Thanks for taking time to share. These are not commonly collected but should be...
Also, R3a--25 cents, dark blue and listed value of about $10

Quick update: I decided these two stamps would be a good fit for ebay and allow me to get a feel for that selling experience. I've removed them from S2G and listed them on ebay. Wish me luck! Terry |
