Hello!

I was wondering if you guys could help me? I live in England and recently bought these two stamps from a charity shop for £2.50.

They're not in great condition, but having lived in America I was just interested in them but I can't work out if they're a J58, a J44, a J37 or something else entirely?!

Best Wishes - Matt

Thanks very much - you can't seem to see one (but then I havent ever looked for one before so I'm not sure I would if it was there!)

Is it on the back...and is it quite obvious if it's there? Should I shine a light at it?

Thanks again for your kind help

M

You might see the mark by holding it up to light. The usual method is place the patient in a black glass (ashtry) and wet it with watermark fluid, or lighter fluid.
If it has either watermark, only part of a letter will be on each stamp.

The stamps are perf 11 and unwatermarked Scott J65b deep claret. The earlier perf 12 double line watermarked deep claret stamps were printed with ink likely to run if soaked.
