jaxom100, It's great that you're using the plating page already. However, 53R1e doesn't have the right frame line extension yours has. What looks like a line recut in the lower left triangle is from the original transfer roll. It is not a recut.
Your stamp has a guide dot well below the lower-right diamond block, making it almost certainly position 26L7 (plate 7). |

Here is the bottom right corner of 26L7 from the Chase plating print. The guide dot shows twice, including at the top of the position below (36L7). The right frame line extension also shows: |

Hmm. That site does not mention the guide dots. Actually there is one at the top left and one at the bottom right corner. What about variety #39?
Variety #39 – Line Joins Lower Right Corner to Upper Right Corner of Stamp Below. 7 positions. 1L1I, 90L2E, 90L2L, 41L4, 29L8, 31L8, 44L8
That fits.
Hmm. where did you get that image? The stamp smarter website does not have a stamp for that position. |

Quote: may I suggest you choose a different OB stamp? The current one looks like a late printing, more red and less orange ttreen, I mentioned that my scanner has a tendency to add a little red. Re-scanning that color set may have to wait for another day, but what I did was scan the #10A in question with two other #10/10A colors/shades. This time I adjusted the red down a tick before scanning, to bring it closer to the true color. From left to right, I'm calling these; OB/pale (7R1e), OB/medium (16R5e), and OB/more red (26L1i): |

jaxom100, some more good research, but Carroll Chase must have determined that the line extension doesn't quite connect with the stamp below on 26L7.
I checked all of the Variety #39 candidates just now, and none are a match. |

The dot at upper left corner is NOT a guide dot. Up close, it is black. Where is the info on guide dots? That should be part of that chart to narrow down choices. |

jaxom100, the dot at the upper left corner of your stamp isn't a guide dot, as there were no guide dots on the second row, as stampcrow's illustration shows. It could be just a fragment of the lower right corner of 15L7, or ink splatter. |

It is a black spot upon close examination in the upper left.
Thanks for the guide dot chart. Is that the same for all plates? |

I think that 26L7 should be listed under Variety #39. How did you find that position then? |

Jaxom100, we're throwing a lot of information at you. The illustration above shows the normal configuration of guide dots. Of course they're not so static in their positioning, they do migrate a bit.
My post prior to that links to another site that has many plate position images. One of which is your 26L7.
