I'm guessing this stamp has a fingerprint on Washington's face in the same ink that the stamp was printed from. Any other ideas on what might have caused this?

Looks like a tough stamp to plate but the fingerprint varieties are usually found at the edges.

A second look indicates it is almost certainly 51L2L. I'll try to confirm it this evening.

So the 51L2L does not have those marks or does it?
The "fingerprint" would make it unique in a way?

My first thought would have been rust on the plate.

Those marks were not on the plate. The worker simply had some ink on his finger when he touched this stamp while handling the sheet, resulting in a unique ink mark.

Plate rust, of course, would show as consistent spots of color where there should be none, from sheet to sheet.

Plate 5 was placed in storage for about three and a half years, during which it developed pitting from corrosion. Here are three printings of position 58R5L, with consistent spots in and around U.S. POSTAGE, and the top frame line:
