Hello, I am going through listing auctions for the postcards I am selling on ebay. I am identifying the stamps before I put them out there. Here is a cute card I ran into tonight, it is apparently from a young boy in a boarding school in Santa Rosa, California who is sending a picture of his school to his Uncle George in London - the boy marks one of the windows on the picture of the building and tells his uncle that is his room, its cute : and here is a close-up of the stamp and its cancel, hope it isn't too blurry: I identified the stamp as either 301 or 319 in Scott, I am not able to pinpoint which one for sure this stamp is, all these Washingtons and Franklins look very much like one another, tis frustrating. Thank you to anyone that can help me figure this one out, I am developing a distinct dislike of these early US stamps - I find them difficult to pinpoint in the scott, but will keep on trying - hopefully someday I will be able to properly identify one of these Washingtons (and the Franklins) - I have BIG dreams. Thank you for any help you can give me, Julie

Thank you for your help, I am so sorry if I annoyed you. Quote: look at the designs in the catalog... I did look, I spend quite some time looking between the two I identified, using my loupe to magnify the stamp and looking at the catalog. I have difficulty seeing the stamps clearly in the online catalog that I am using, I have noticed it before - I cannot see the designs very well. But thank you for helping me although I take it you think I am either stupid or lazy for not identifying the stamp properly. Thank you, Julie |

Quote: The 301 has perforations and the 319 does not. ? - Perforations don't have anything to do with 301 vs 319. They are completely different designs |

319 has perforations while 320 is imperforate. As others have said, 301 and 319 are completely different designs. |

Ya know, I did originally think it was the 319, but got confused when looking at the 301. Maybe some of you can't understand being a little older and experiencing some confusion - I have apologized for the annoyance, I will take it one step further - I will not ever ask for a stamp id in this forum again, I made a mistake, but I can see that was not well tolerated by the repeated remarks about how "the stamps are completely different designs" - so I explained why I had trouble above, I can't see the images very well in the catalog I am using. I am beginning to think some of the members here are quite judgmental and not very forgiving of others - so be it, I will not ask you for help identifying a stamp again. |

jchrisler,
You have a 319. Note the banners to the right and left of Washington. There are many other differences as well.

Thank you Jack Kelley, I saw that immediately when Mdroth pointed it out earlier tonight above. I guess you did not understand that I realized that earlier, thank you for telling me again. I had a hard time seeing those banners when I first started looking, partly because of the size of the images I was referencing in my copy of scott, partly because I had trouble with where the ink from the cancel is placed over the stamp. Thank you, Julie |

Julie, relax. No one was picking on you. My reply was to Kcaramat and the statement about perforations which would confuse you even more.
Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Thank you so much for that Mike! I have been a little too sensitive I think, and thank you for diffusing this for me. I have been wishing I had never posted anything in the first place and will try to use the lovely tools at stampsmarter.com in the future. I feel like I post here too much, I will back off, I don't want to annoy anyone. Merry Christmas to you Mike, I hope you have a sweet one. Julie |

Quote: I feel like I post here too much, I will back off, I don't want to annoy anyone. By no means are you annoying anyone. The only dumb question is the one that does not get asked. There are no rules here that state you must be a expert to post and ask questions. Those who are experts would be more upset with you if you stopped posting. We all started somewhere asking about our items, it's how we learned. Post away ! Merry X-mas. |

Thank you so much Stallzer I appreciate your words this morning very much - had a bad night last night, kept thinking I had put my foot in it here in this forum - I felt like I should go hide under a rock somewhere for being so dumb as to ask the wrong thing - thank you for assuring me that is not the case. I will police myself to try and keep from asking dumb questions for everyones sake, including mine. Thank you - I appreciate your reassurance.
Merry Christmas to you Stallzer, I hope you have a wonderful day, today, Christmas Eve, and tomorrow, Christmas 2017! Julie |

Julie - I enjoy reading your posts. Do not ever concern yourself about what other folks think. As far as experts go you may be right about something more often than you realize. Experts express only opinions just like yourself. And they can be and are wrong about things just like anyone can be. Keep posting! |

Thank you rogdcam, thank you so much for your very kind words, I can't tell you how much I appreciate them. And you know, I have said that very same thing to my children, don't worry about what others think, somehow it is easier for me to say than to put into practice. Thank you for the very pertinent reminder I hope you have a wonderful Christmas this year, thank you so much, Juie |
