I recently posted a topic in the " inherited Stamps" forum about a collection I purchased for 25$ 6-7 years ago, but I have just found a few other bags of stamps from Peru and Germany that seem to be pretty old and mint. I did some research, and I am putting the stamps that are potentially valuable in this topic. The ones that have the red center with the greenish background seem to be extremely valuable. Anybody have any information on them? I am seeing single ones on ebay for 500$+ , I have a sheet of 4. Thank you to anybody who provides any information! -Paul

Yes they can be valuable ---about $1.90 each if you look on ebay for a Scott #95 but if you been looking at Scott 78 then those are $675.00 MNH . But ....but my guess is you got the $1.90 variety. |

There are numerous varieties of the 5 Mark Deutsches Reich stamp. A few questions:
1. Do they have a watermark? 2. How many perf holes are on each side? It appears from the scan to be 25 by 17. 3. Can you post a good scan instead of a photo? There are varieties that can only be distinguished by the print quality (peacetime versus wartime printings), which is tough to see from a fuzzy photo. |

Here is a better quality image of the stamp- sorry I don't have the ability to get a scan of it at the moment. I cannot see a watermark by holding them up to the light. Hopefully this image is good enough. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks! |

I counted 25 X 17 holes. That narrows the possibilities to one: Scott 95 5m slate & carmine with catalogue value of $3 for each one. |

Based on Michel, there are three possibilities at 25x17:
Without watermark, MiNr 81 B a or 81 B b (unlisted in Scott), both with a CV of €50,000 each. With watermark, MiNr 97 B II (Scott 95) with a CV of €10 each. So, I suspect it's MiNr 97 B II. |

Thank you for the info, what should I be looking for when I look for a watermark? All I did was hold it under a bright light and I could not see anything. |

i am holding them up to a bright light and do not see any watermark. Is there any other safe methods of finding a watermark? |

How easily are the watermarks seen on these stamps?
If they are, as a rule, easily seen and Bigman cannot see a watermark then there probably isn't one. |

Go buy lighter Fluid and place the stamp on black plastic or black paper and drop a few drops of fluid on the backside of the stamp ,you will see the design or pattern that's in the paper . |

Upon further inspection, I can now see the watermark. I am surprised at how hard it is to see compared to different watermarks on other stamps. It is almost non-existent. Thanks to all for your help! |
