Hi Everyone, I would value any advice on these Natal Chalons I have in my collection. I like collecting Chalons and have of course different ones from Colonial era times. I ve been trying to categorize these,or rather the 3d Blue example (with the Postage overprints on the sides. I can t find any mention of overprints in red,are these unusual? Tried researching them but can t find an answer. I believe they are 1869 issues 7a overprints. The 3d one in particular is ? 1870 to 1873 with a type 11 overprint. Is red unusual or common? I would appreciate anyone..... opinions on these beauties. Thanks, Revdoc. David.

Hi Revdoc,

In order, these are Gibbons 61, 83 and 50. Current values are £13, £8 and £50

The red overprint is normal.

PS: Love the Chalons! One of my favourite designs.

None here are type 7a overprints. You need to do a much better comparison -- the SG pictures are quite accurate but may be off in measurement.

The first is Stanley Gibbons #61 from 1872, clearly indicated in the catalog as having a red overprint: (R.). You must read the "information and guidelines" section. Under "abbreviations" you will find "(R.)" means a red abbreviation.

The second has no stop at the end and does not at all match the 1869 overprint without a stop. This is SG #83 from 1875.

For the third stamp, I ask you to figure out and post its identification. It's definitely not a type 7a overprint.
