What are these called and where should the be the proper placement be in the books.

I removed a stamp from one of these thinking I just needed the stamp a gent said I destroyed the piece is this so?

They are Registered Envelopes. The registration labels indicate they are from philatelic bureaus. They most likely had new issues in them.

Destroy is a strong word, but to postal history collectors (stamps on the envelopes) removing the stamp from the original article is in fact destroying/ruining the article.

There'll be no place in the stamp album for them but there are plenty of options for the storage of covers/envelopes.

The Bermuda cover is quite attractive, to my eyes anyway.

Yes, you did. But the important thing is that you needed the stamp. Some people collect covers with cancelled stamps on them.

The white one never had a stamp on it how did it get mailed? Also I will consult with you all before removing any future stamps. He said the cancel was of more value than the stamp, heck I had no idea that cancels had any value at all. I know I have a long long long way to get as good as you gents if ever and thanks for the advice along the way all. cheers to you.

I can see a 'Post Paid' cancellation on the white envelope so that's how that one went through the mail.

The great thing about this hobby is you never stop learning. It's such an enormous field to study. Some cancels/postmarks are worth hundreds of dollars!

The plain white one was sent by the Philatelic Bureau, i.e. part of the Post Office, so the cancellation was presumably sufficient. Perhaps the greatest of stamp collectors, Ferarry, would have torn the stamp off the cover without a thought, so don't feel too guilty!

I'm getting it in my blood already but noticed much of my home and office mail does not have stamps just printed cancels,makes me wonder what is going to become of the values of stamps in the future. Can anyone recommend specific books that we cant live without a stamp Bible per say.I have Scott Specialized 1-6 coming.

MrQuestion, years ago hen I started collecting stamps it was fairly common to soak every stamp off that one came across. However, things have changed. Now we place as much value, sometimes more on a whole cover.
Another thing. On the few covers that do have stamps some probably have bulk mail or non-profit stamps. Some of these stamps have tiny numbers on them, plate numbers. They also can be very sought after, especially if left on cover.
