Years ago told my wife when I retire I will start getting rid of some of my stamps . That was years ago ,I stopped at a resale story while my wife was next door shopping and found a neat bookcase and bought it at a low price. Had it delivered and found a home for all my duplicates which I kept in notebook binders stored in boxes in a closet. So now she says I am expanding my collection and collecting bookcases .

I recall seeing the picture(s) of the book cases housing your main collections. Impressive all the way around. |

From someone who has no duplicates, that's an impressive bookcase of duplicates! |

Thank God my duplicates are at a mininum. I've scaled back my purchases until I get caught up with Christmas. (Five grandchildren)

Several collectors here have given most of their dupes to others. I'll be doing the same because keeping them doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. It's almost impossible to trade with them because everyone seems to have them. I'm talking about the common stuff and not the rare stamps, of course. |

Do you sell or trade your duplicates in order to get other stamps that you need or do you collect them as well for further reference? |

I don't know how to say this ====But I still have many boxes that I won at stamp auctions that still have not been broken down or looked at . I have been buying specialized collections to add to my main collection ,but always try to buy extra stuff like a bulk lot to play with and sort and over the years these bulk lots have accumulated .I will take something out just to enjoy myself and relax for a few hours . I believe every collector keeps some stuff around to relax with .

If it helps, you can assure your wife that an SCF member is willing to take your 1851-57 3 cent doubles whenever you need the space... |

Space is an ongoing problem! I've been collecting for 54 years and taken over one bedroom in our house. Wife doesn't complain, unless I encroach on one of the other bedrooms for additional storage space.
No resolution in sight.

I solved that problem: I have no wife. My Vizsla doesn't care how many stamps I collect or where I store them. |

Sell your dupes, take her to Rome for her birthday. You'll be good for years! |

Everyone seems to be having the same trouble, regardless of age.. I am 35 btw! Told her that she can sell it after I am gone.. and then got asked how much my books are worth. May be there is a hidden meaning behind that follow up question !!! |
