Received a stamp, Germany, Saar, 3II, VF NH, Signed Dr. Dub, 1920 3Pf brown, Type II. Now, I looked through my Scott, Classic, Specialized Catalog, in the Saar section to identify the stamp. Next I looked in the German Michel Catalog to find an German expertiser by the name Dr.Dubb. No luck. Does anybody know anything about this Dr.Dubb? Any help would be very much appreciated befor I spend a lot of good money. Thank you for your help.

Seafarer -----I believe Dr DUB was a excellent expertizer of Germany and related areas but later in life he went over to the DARK SIDE and started forging overprints, especially Upper Silesia stamps and signing them .I hope I remember this correctly it was 45 years ago at the Austin Stamp Club in Chicago I had this discussion with Dr. Meteka.
His name is Dr. James J. Matejka ---He was a medical doctor with offices in downtown Chicago and I would send all new employees to him for a physical as required by our firm . |

Unfortunately you can't trust his promoters mark. Dr. Dubb also had his proofer stamp forged. |

Floortrader is quite correct. Dr. Dub marks need to be re-examined and verified along with the stamp.
Confirm first and then buy! |

Over time, you will find a lot of German area stamps signed by Dr. Dub. Again, it's a pretty worthless marking.
Michel catalogs only list the current active Bundesprüfers. Twenty years ago and earlier, the names could/would have been different, yet the signatures/handstamps are still valid. Of course, over the years a few experts have had their handstamps forged or stolen. |

Dr. Dub expertized a lot of stamps in my area of interest too, Soviet Occupied Germany. Just to echo what has already been said, if your purchase is contingent on expertization, I wouldn't rely on Dr. Dub. I would recommend a trip back to BPP for reexamination. Dan |

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example. I collect for enjoyment, not investment. APS Member #223433 Postmark Collectors Club Member #6333 Meter Stamp Society Member #1409 |
