I have both books, and if I were to only get 1, I will chose the Pence pre-decimal era, as it provides a bit more info on actual stamps, vs the Cents one which has extensive coverage of postal use, envelopes, destinations ext. Better still, get both.
By the way has anyone got the Calder book on the 17c Cartier, from C. Verge? (Calder's Complete Plating of the Canada 17c Jacques Cartier, 1859 Cents Issue (Charles J.G. Verge , 1992, Cyrlox bound)? I have the K. Kershaw plating, but would need the Calder one to validate a few of my stamps that are less obvious based on Kershaw...)

There are also the following:

The Stamp Specialist Red Book by H.L. Lindquist, New York, 1942 with an article on Canada 17c 1859, a study of its plate positions, by J. A. Calder.

The Stamp Specialist Brown Book by H.L. Lindquist, New York, 1943 with an article on Canada 17c 1859, the identification of its printings through color charts by J.A. Calder.
