Here is a Scott 70 with a large mark through the right low S. I have a 2011 Scott specialised, but cannot see any mention of it. Is it just a plate scratch ?.

It does look like a scratch. A confirming copy would help prove this.
I suppose there is also a chance it could be some foreign matter on the transfer roll or plate.

There is at least one well-known scratch on the 24c stamp -- the so-called Scratch under A (of postage). This is not that, but does off-hand appear to be another one.

Good eye. Keep looking at your stamps.

Thanks.

It looks like there may be a fainter scratch to the right as well. I will dig it out and look closer.

Yes.
Its faint, but under 10x magnification, looks to be another line where the arrows are pointing. Dont know why I didnt notice it before.

That has to be a printing anomaly. I can look through some of mine but I have never seen that variety before and, seeing as that looks like a Red Lilac, so a rather early shade, it would have been on plate 6 for some time and I would imagine that we'd have known about it by now.

I'd like to see a higher DPI scan of the area if possible though.

Hi billw2. Thanks for looking.

I have a canon lide 120 that has a maximum of 1200 dpi.

I normally scan my stamps at max dpi and 149%.

I have tried scanning just the small area of the S, at 499% and 999%. Hope these are better. Best I can do with the equipment I have.

I'll start pawing through my reference copies to see if I have one. It'll take me some time though.

I have spent some time looking on the net for a similar stamp, but with no success up to now.

However. I did find a stamp with some different marks in the S that was sold many years ago.

It is on USPhila.com. Latest US stamps prices. Page 13. 4th stamp down.

Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, Sep 2009, Sale 976, Lot 1374. The marks are not mentioned.

I do not know if its relevant, just thought it was interesting.

I can add a link if its allowed to save you trying to find it..
