Washington 2 Cent #634 - Thunderbolt

Hi guys!

While trying to determine if this stamp was a #634 or #634A I noticed some red missing underneath the 2 on the bottom right side.


It looks like a thunderbolt, hence the subject title.



So I took out my magnifying glass and noticed some more odd areas where red is missing.




It's definitely noticeable in-between the letters "U" and "N" from UNITED. And also underneath the "E" and the "T" from CENTS.

Was this kind of printing goof normal for this particular run of stamps?

PS- I never could figure out if this was a Type I or II...so if anyone knows that'd also be super helpful!

yours is a type I.

Yes, this as fairly common for this era's stamps. It is just some ink missing.

Peter - Fantastic. That's good to know. I certainly wasn't expecting to find some hidden gem but I do like the cool design that was made underneath the 2 from the missing ink. :) (almost looks like a sign from a tribal tattoo!)
