Lake Eyre contains the lowest natural point in Australia, at 15 m below sea level. It is a salt lake when filled on rare occasions, and its salinity increases as water evaporates. The lake is dry as of March 2018. The stamp set captures the dramatic variations in the physiography of the lake.

Waterton Lakes National Park is in southern Alberta, bordering Glacier National Park in Montana. It is known for its chain of lakes, including the Upper and Middle Waterton Lakes, flanked by the Rocky Mountains.
June 21, 1985
Banff National Park is located in the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta. It is known for its Alpine landscapes with dense coniferous forest and numerous glaciers, ice fields and lakes. The stamp shows Moraine Lake with the Wenkchemna Range in the background.

The stamp set and minisheet mark the restoration of American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) to Anegada, a flat and low island formed from coral and limestone. Salt ponds on the island support a small population of flamingos as well as other species such as Curry Mole Mullet and Anegada Rock Iguana.

Divjakė-Karavasta National Park encompasses freshwater wetlands, salt marshes, coastal meadows, woodlands, pine forests and the deltas of Shkumbin and Seman. The Karavasta Lagoon (shown in the stamps) has been recognised as a wetland of international importance by designation under the Ramsar Convention.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is located on the northwest coast of Singapore. It is home to a variety of wetland species and an important stop-over point for migratory birds. The stamp set features Banded Archerfish (Toxates jaculator), Smooth-coated Otter (Lutra perspicillata), Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris), and Orange Fiddler Crab (Uca vocans).

Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary lies on the southeast bank of the Senegal River in northwestern Senegal. It provides a range of wetland habitats which prove very popular with migrating birds, many of which have crossed the Sahara. The stamp set features African Finfoot, African Spoonbill, Black Crowned Crane, Great Egret, and Greater Flamingo.

La Mauricie National Park is located in the Laurentian mountains, in the Mauricie region of Quebec. There are ca. 150 lakes in the national park. Lake size varies from small Bogs at higher elevations containing acidic water to the largest valley lakes that have clear water.

Emerald Lakes fill volcanic craters near the summit of Mt Tongariro in the Tongariro National Park. Their brilliant colors are partly caused by dissolved minerals washed down from the nearby thermal area.
Lake Mackenzie is located in Te Wahipounamu in the southwestern region of the South Island. The glacier lake is on the Routeburn Track which links the Mount Aspiring National Park with Fiordland National Park.

Lake Turkana is located in the Kenyan Rift Valley in northern Kenya, with its far northern end crossing into Ethiopia. It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake. The stamp shows the southern portion of the lake.

Cuvelai Drainage System

Cuvelai drainage system in northern Namibia was designated a Ramsar site in 1995. The wetland and lakes in this region provide freshwater resource and habitat for water birds. The stamp set depicts Cuvelai Drainage and Omadhiya Lakes and features Abdim's Stork, Grey Crowned Crane, Lesser Flamingo, and Egyptian Goose.
