Second image of the second pair: the tail of the dog seems to be pointing upwards, while in the original image is laying down, alongside the rear legs.

True but looks like the back is missing that gives it an affect of just a tail....Probably not, but if it WAS, we would have to call it a "Foreign offset"..That would be rare.

Never heard of that before..eh..?

Hey Wert, looks like none of those stamps you posted are of the reverse offset variety.

see post from earlier

I would love to see a great scan copy of the 14 cent dog. Might be the PELURE paper variety. Thinish paper.

As for the color "bleeding" through the stamps, there is some concerns nowadays regarding the type of plastic mounts used back in mid 1900's. The mounts chemically altered the stamps themselves, especially with the blue inks, causing the ink to bleed through.
I believe the dealer Kasimir Bileski was known to use these plastic stamps mounts. (someone correct if I a wrong)

p.s. here is a great article about Bileski

I don't think 1,3, and 4 are offsets. The paper is of a quality (very white, on the thin side) that the design shows right through.

On the #239, I think the dog ghost image transferred from a #238 sitting underneath it for a long time.
