i picked this guy up for a couple of bucks at the show..so right off I highly suspect its genuine...plus the fact that neither the scott catalog or the Guatemala specialized books make any

mention of an inverted surcharge on scott # 127...i have a place for it in my Guatemala back of book pages !!

I don't know, Phil,

Since it is not listed and the note in Scott says forgeries and bogus varieties exist it is suspect. I assume you have a genuine Scott 124-130 with which you can compare the overprint for width, height, spacing of letters and numbers, etc. The ISGC published (or has/had available a book on all the early overprints with just such data for each one.

Even if a forgery, it is a nice stamp for a great price. I have several unlisted Guatemala overprints which are certain to be forgeries or bogus, but I still like them.

Well here is some news for you, Scott's does list it in my 1933 edition as 127a but no value assigned. My 1970 edition lists it with no assigned value, but it disappears by 1986.

Mike, that is weird...scotts and the Guatemala specialty mention the inverted surcharge for Scott 126...the 102 card the stamp came in called it scott #127 catalog value 7 dollars..which of course is the normal surcharge.... Marty, I enjoy the fakes and forgeries very much !!Of course I would not want to pay what the sellers on ebay ask for them !!

philb, In my 1933 catalog it shows 124a inverted, 124b "Centavos" omitted,
125a "Centavos" omitted, 125b vertical overprint, 126a inverted, 126b "Centavos"
omitted & the 127a inverted as mentioned.
The remaining 128-31 list no variations.

Mike
