We moved to Boston some months ago and today I finally got around to visiting the main branch of The Boston Public Library. See attached list of their philately collection; some seriously esoteric titles.

The building itself is beautiful dates from 1895. It houses galleries with art and murals, it has a courtyard with statues and a fountain, and also its own cafe. You can get an idea of the scope of the library complex here: https://www.boston-discovery-guide....library.html.

And I've still yet to visit the nearby Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History.

Ikey,

The vast majority of these titles don't circulate. You have to go to the Service Desk and request them and 20 minutes or so later you will have them in hand, but they can't leave the library. However, if there is something special you need I'll be glad to get the book and copy the relevant pages.

StamperMA: you may want to further check out the Boston Athenaeum, the oldest private library in the USA, founded in 1807 ( www.bostonathenaeum.org ). I found about it in a Christian Science Monitor news article from some years ago. I have never been to Boston, but visiting the Athenaeum would be high on my priority list.

It is a membership library. But you can probably sample some of the "delights" in a short visit. It's at 10 1/2 Beacon St.

Steve,

Yes the Athenaeum is on my list of things to visit. The book collection is over 500,000 and they also have collections of paintings, sculpture, maps, prints, photographs, and a rare book room.

Once I get there I'll report back on their philately collection.
