While perusing some duck stamps on ebay, I ran across the following item. I am not interested in purchasing the stamp nor have I ever purchased anything from the seller ... but I am interested in learning whether the "excess debris" in the perf holes might be evidence of regumming. I freely admit that I don't know. Any & all opinions are welcome!

Not in my opinion. I also doubt that Sam Houston would sell a regummed duck stamp as MNH. That is my 1.5 cents worth.

Judging from the responses & the reputation of the seller, I must assume that the stamp in question is not regummed. The material in the perf holes would appear to perhaps be bits of glassine adhering to the back of the stamp ... but for a MNH stamp, that makes no more sense than regumming. Out of curiosity, I have actually asked the seller what it might be. If they're not too busy, maybe I'll get an answer.

Just a question in general and nothing against this seller. But why do a lot of sellers on ebay don't show the back of there stamps when up for auction or in their store. I would presume most are hiding something or are we left to ask for scans of the back if interesting in buying.

Myself I wouldn't buy a stamp if I couldn't see the back and I'm sure the majority of SCF. Again not saying anything about Sam Houston.

It is in the interest of ethically challenged sellers to keep information to a minimum and let the imagination do the buyers work. For the good guys who do not provide back scans it is likely a time issue when listing large numbers of items. Always get a scan of the back. A good seller will be happy to do it and it also helps protect them from spurious claims of "problems".

Thank you rodgcam. I understand that but eventually you will have to scan the back if someone is interested in purchasing which will take time for the seller to post the back. So, why not just go ahead and scan the back. Its time now or time later.
I don't purchase from online and notice a lot of seller on ebay do not show the backs. This is just a question I had and also an observation that I have noticed.

Thanks again and I don't mean to hijack the post.

The seller was kind enough to answer my query. The "apparent" material in the perf holes to which I referred is an artifact of the computer software used to render the stamp image. It is not actually present.
Added: Just realized that my brief explanation is not entirely accurate. The "added" material is actually the result of the rendering of stamp fibers that are indeed actually present. The "apparent" material between & amongst those fibers is not.

It is a result of using photoshop to make the background (which was a gray) deep black and not getting it to turn some of the areas between the perfs to turn deep black. A further explanation would get very wordy.
