In a collection lot I received awhile ago I found this stock book loaded with these cut outs. They are all different with Department of State, NASA, Department of the Navy, Air Force, Selective Service System, etc, etc. There are a few with cancels but most are unused. I'm just wondering if they are worth anything.

Cut-outs are not worth a whole lot - collectors go for the whole cover nowadays.

The corners you showed rarely got postmarked; the fact that they were saved and cut out (probably by the recipient) pretty much indicates that they were, in fact, "used."

Some collectors do save them, as cutouts or, as mentioned, as "entires" but, like envelope cut-outs, they were quite common. Many collectors didn't care to save them at all.

I can add that this is a really specialized collecting. All you can do is put it up on ebay and see what happens.

I recently came across an article in an older journal that stated, not counting envelope knives and paper colors there were 59 (or 56) varieties of imprint, adding in the knife/color brought the number into the tens of thousands. This was before the permit varieties.

Jobi01,

I have a large collection of these covers and have been trying to figure out how to organize them. To the best of my knowledge, there is no catalog or system that lists them.

Does the article you referred to have any hints on organization? It's a long term project of mine and I don't want to reinvent the wheel if there already is work done.

Appreciate any information.

thanks,
Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
