In a recent clean up the basement I ran across a box of old letters from granddad to grandma. I retired not long ago and have time to find out more now. I collected stamps in the 50s and 60s but things have changed a lot since then. These stamps are still attached to the envelops and I would prefer not to remove them. (I don't want to damage them). I have done my best over the last month to find out what the Scott# might be but with little success. My question is, since I know where these stamps where mailed from, is there a way to track which stamp printings went to a given post office in a given year? This might narrow my search to a lesser number of Scott numbers at least. Not having any luck on the Smithsonian website. Would anyone have any good suggestion on how I might proceed? Thanks in advance.

The Stamp Smarter website is a good, free online resource for identifying US stamps. You can search by year, by Scott number, or lookup by stamp design.
