Has anyone been watching this estate coming up in the next Collection Auction at Kelleher. This collection and his massive inventory of worldwide is huge . I am impress with the size and bulk of his accumulation .It looks like once he retired as a medical doctor he decided to expand his inventory of stamps . He purchased so much that he had tons of unworked boxes of albums and binders that he never got to when he died . I guess what caught my interest was his passion for inventory and writing up 102 dealer cards. There are close to a thousand red boxes he filled up and now up for auction . From what I can see he enjoyed buying bigger and bulky lots to break down . I bring this up because that is what I have done over the years with all my duplicates but nowhere near the level this Doctor did . I wish I could sit and view his material before the auction but due to other plans ,guess I will just take a chance and buy a few lots of his to break down and add to my collection .

I was there last Friday and it is amazing, many lots are on pallets, and there are many pallets. I can't imagine dealing with something that big. |

I saw that. I was reading through the lots, and saw one that was ex-Ott, which, basically got there via forklift ... then another ... and so on...That is a massive holding. |

Jack Ott was a dealer who frequented many of the Virginia shows over the years and he carried and extensive inventory, so 1,000 102 boxes would seem rather reasonable to me. His inventory at the shows was massive. I can just imagine what he held that he hadn't worked up for inventory yet... |

1000 red boxes doesn't surprise me. If you've ever visited Michael Ball (A to Z Stamps) or any of the other "floor to ceiling" dealers, the amount of inventory they take to shows is massive. What is shown in this picture is probably a third or half of his booth. He usually has triple or quad booths. Another image, smaller but gives you the height: A&D Stamps. Binders rather than redboxes, but even larger presentation than A to Z. |

The one not mentioned above is SUPERIOR STAMPS of New York City .I never seen their inventory of worldwide binders but I understand it is second to none . Thanks for the above info . ,I do have two red boxes of A&D's 102 cards that was picked up thru a large auction purchase . The one thing I learned over the years is that many surprising large collections and inventories do find their way to auction from people you never hear about .

"500 banker boxes" That is a lot of philatelic material . I can't believe a retired medical doctor had time to sort and catalog that much material. Those pallet lots have to be unprocessed purchases and Kelleher couldn't process that much material or even care to go page by page or even sort thru all those red boxes . I think I am going to jump in with two feet on this one . |

rev - A&D also has hundreds of red boxes, just not visible in the pic (you may know this, but others may not) |

I sometimes work shows, so I have seen the "A&D race" several times. There are many large lots that were not from Ott in this sale as well. |

Michael Ball is perhaps my favorite show dealer. Amazes me that he always seems to remember me and what I bought last time. A and D are just unbelievable. Almost the entire world of stamps y sorted out in NH, mint and used. Everything neat. |

I am new to the stamp collecting world. I have never purchased a single stamp! I only recently found thousands of stamps that belonged to my uncle and grandfather (both of whom passed away years ago). This post is fascinating to me. I have enjoyed plodding through the many boxes of stamps they left behind, and so the prospect of going through an entire "estate" of stamps sounds really exciting. So, I wonder, does this happen often? Is there a way to find other (obviously smaller) collections left behind by others? And, as a newbie, what is the best way to locate lots of stamps to purchase? Thanks for your help.
