Hi all, recently purchased this stamp for my ww2 collection, and was just wandering what the story behind it is, as Sweden was obviously not a belligerent why were stamps produced, and are there other examples of these sorts of stamps being used in sweden? Regards, Tom.

Sweden was naturally concerned about national defense at that time. Here are several more from the period. On the left: "With united strength against external force." On the right: "Stockholm Home Guard".

Running a Google image search on your "På Post Für Sverige" label brought up a few hits where the graphics of the label was being used. None of these discussed the image.

But a search on "På Post Für Sverige" brought up this sale of a label with the same image in a different color https://www.tradera.com/item/150139...rig-1940-tal. Also a recording of a Swedish milirary march written during WW2

The slogan can be translated to English as "On Guard For Sweden".

"På Post Für Sverige"
"On Guard For Sweden".

The Swedish military system rests on the militia system. And like the Swiss, Sweden's neutrality is well over a century old. The last war fought by the Swedish Army was in 1814 although volunteers from its ranks has on number of occasions fought at the side of fellow Scandinavians against much stronger and powerful neighbors. This happened in Finland 1939-40.

After the First World War Sweden's armed forces were allowed to sink to a very low period of preparedness. In 1924 conscription was reduced to four months and only rise again in 1936 following growing international tension.

In April 1940 Sweden's entire force of 400.000 men was put on full alert. A newly formed national government was formed, conscription was increased to 450 days and the armed forces strength was increased to 600.000 men, not including civilians who were formed into Home Guard, Aircraft Observer and various auxiliary units.

Your seal was issued in support of Sweden's Home Guard.

Here are a few examples.
NONE of the above stamps are "RARE" despite the claims and outrageous prices on ebay.
