Why wasn't the first example identified by the seller? Mostly based on the paper brightness showing in the scan, I would think this is Scott #119P3, plate proof on India paper, which is fibrous. Physical examination would be better or even a view of this in watermark fluid. I don't have a current Specialized catalog to give a price. Without seeing the back, this could easily be thinned which means the value is reduced considerably.

The second is a fantasy/fake. If I remember correctly it was probably intended to be an album spacefiller for a #5.

What people use as spacefiller's for #5 is anybody's guess, but the item in reference is not a fantasy or a fake. It is a postal stationery essay cut square. The link Don gave to the Langs offering gives the United Postal Stationery Society (UPSS) catalog listing to another variety of this same essay type. It is a well recognized variety with SPECIMEN overprint.

E27Gk has a 2003 catalogue value of $40.00 in the Catalogue of United States Stamped Envelope Essays and Proofs edited by Dan Undersander. A digital copy is available for purchase on the UPSS website.
