Hello,

I had this auction on my watch list at the beginning and would have paid some dollars, perhaps 100 USD - but 1000 USD?

https://www.ebay.de/itm/United-Stat...=nc#viTabs_0

The seller says that most are faulty and stuck on the page, and on the photo they really don't look perfect. In addition it's not really a close look to each stamp so not sure if the courier/penny stamps are forgeries for example. I guess someone wanted to buy a nice 1851 1c stamp?

maybe somebody here knows which stamp in this sale made it going up so far?

I believe the correct term in this case is 'irrational exuberance'

The seller has a good rating, but wow that is a lot to pay for these stamps.

thank you all. Yes, I was not saying anything against the seller, in opposite I think he made an acceptable scan and said that most are faulty. So everything ok with the ebay auction. But this is also the reason why I wonder if there is a hidden champion among those stamps, and my guess would be any good type of the 1851 Franklins, or maybe the double cut square which I did not see before.

There's alot of desirable stamps in this lot. Unfortunately, most are in horrifying condition. The cut square combination is easily the best of the bunch in terms of condition - but overall an absurdly high price for what is effectively a bunch of nice space fillers...

probably got hooked up by the $900 written over the !857-60 1cent. !

Looks like a shill bid... winner has 4 bids in 30 days and 3 of them are with this seller !

But still looks ridiculous !

I think there may be a break in the bottom curved line on the 1c 1851 Franklin in space #9. If so, poss and probable Type 3, #8. Would be well worth the $1000....

yes, but how can you decide it's not a type IIIa if you don't see the top line? also, the bottom line is not broken very wide, as it seems.

and: although it would have a CV of 2700 USD, this stamp is still not complete and maybe stuck to the page.

I'm guessing "stuck to the page" very probably indicates that the stamps are thinned.

People used to glue their stamps to the album. Sometimes they can be soaked off fine, sometimes they cannot. Depends on what kind of glue they used. I'd just toss the whole page in a pan and see what floats off the page -- but I would not pay a grand to gamble on this lot.
