I have two 1 penny Queen Victoria. They have two different shades but one is in better condition than the other so not sure if one has faded.

Scott lists two colors, rose and carmine rose, and having a hard time identifying which colors these are. My gut feel is they are the same color (rose) but not sure.

The scan color looks pretty accurate to me.

My initial thought was the stamp on the right was faded.

Gibbons lists a rose (SG9) and a carmine (SG40). A rose stamp would look very pink when compared to a carmine stamp.

The left one is definitely carmine rose. The right one could be either shade but looks more like a slightly faded carmine rose to me.

You can never be sure with scans, but based on the colors, the left stamp appears to be SG 40 1d Carmine and the right stamp appears to be SG 9 1d Rose.

However, it is possible the right one could just be faded in which case they might both be the Rose color.

You should expect to see a Crown CA watermark on both versions, so only the color defines which stamp is which.

I find sorting British Colony colors is easiest when you put them against black paper and compare as many as you can find together. Then the color shades really show themselves.
