I was checking some of the older control markings in our collection and noticed that I could make words from them!

Amazing the different ways you can look at stamps.
I have always been interested in the printing processes of stamps, (not understanding a lot of the terms, but still...) and they make an interesting thematic study, see this page on our website.

Looking further at those, led to another theme we have of stamps issued from Queen Victoria's Jubilee, to Queen Elizabeth's 60th Jubilee, and feel that these are some of the best designed British stamps.

The world's first adhesive postage stamp was issued in 1840, during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). During this time she celebrated a Golden Jubilee in 1887 and a Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Her son King Edward VII reigned only for 9 years, but his son King George V was the next monarch to celebrate a Jubilee, in 1935. The next two kings did not make it, Edward VIII only lasting for less than a year before he abdicated in favour of his younger brother, who became George VI. He died in 1952, having celebrated 25 years of marriage, (Silver Wedding in 1948), but only 11 years as King. Our present Queen has so far celebrated Jubilees for 25 years, 50 years and in 2012 an amazing 60 years. She has now been Queen for longer than her great-great-grandmother, Victoria.
There are heaps of other philatelic items on our non-commercial, advert free web site, starting with about 150 old letters (1660 onwards) with scans, information and with some really fascinating transcriptions. Other postal history of G.B., King Edward VIII, Australian stamp booklets, Antarctica etc. Why not have a browse?
