Difficult to see the lozenges of varnish on the face even with bright light on either side. Is it only uv that will reveal?

Lozenges are usually above the stamp design. There are two types: vertical and horizontal lozenges. A collector need to check perforations to determine which vertical or horizontal lozenges may be present. For example, vertical lozenges are known only on 12 1/2 perforations.
Imperforated types with both stamps that have horizontal lozenges are known to be rare, high value stamps.
