I found this in an envelope full of cheap revenue stamps. I can't find t in a catalog looking under stock transfer. Can anyone tell me anything about it.
This appears to be an undated documentary, which was issued in 1954. Stock transfer stamps ended in 1952, so there appears to be no reason for it to exist. So it is a fake.
Without this being on its original document we are at a loss to properly evaluate this stamp. I agree that there is no legal reason for this to exist, but I rather believe that it indeed was put on a stock transfer document and someone handstamped it Stock Transfer. Not sure if I have seen this one before, but there are other examples of similar handstamps for both stock transfer and future delivery.
Recall that the original stock transfer stamps were for use in facilitating the payment of the tax transacted on a stock exchange. Private transfers used the documentary stamps. So it seems possible that this was for a transfer not transacted elsewhere and some clerk had a handstamp made to use for such transactions (trust department in a bank?). But without the original document we can speculate with no definitive conclusion.
I do not believe that this is a fake, but I also don't think that this rises to great heights in terms of significance (or price).
