Some of the reasons as to why there are so many perforation variations may have to do with the following:

The Large and Small Queen stamps were made over a long period of almost 30 years which is a long time.

There was a lot of wear and tear from such a long usage of equipment that required repair and replacement.

The time period in which the equipment was made did not have the same exacting standards as is found today.

The equipment was purchased from a U.S. company connected to their rival the American Bank Note Company.

Thank you again. I saw once a Shoemaker table about the 3c stamps - did Shoemaker do this for all queens? Or is there any specialized catalogue about them? (you see, I don't have one yet, and I wonder if Unitrade really has all the perforation differences)

Unitrade has a chart for Small Queens perforations based on the Kiusalas perforation gauge.
