Hi all.

I am wondering if modern Swedish stamps issued from the 1980s to present day have new gum that was water activated? I have some stamps in mounts that a previous owner had without any cancellations at all, which was the way he mounted his 'mint' stamps, but, I do not see any gum that would be either dextrine or PVA gum? Were these stamps issued with a special gum? Thanks a lot.

The gum on Swedish stamps of that era is very white (like the stamp paper used) and is extremely flat/matte. If you come across hinged mint stamps of the period and the stamps were moved around, they can develop polishing of a sort on the backs, the only clue that there is gum on the stamp.

The backs of the used stamps look pretty much the same.

Agree with hy-brasil. Telling the difference is very hard... Possibly the easiest way is rubbing the stamp between two fingers few times. Mint should feel a bit smoother than used (both back and front).
