Good morning all. I have a stamp I sent to APS to be expertized and I am waiting now to see the results and receive a certificate. APS does not provide a value or grading along with the certificate. I would like to get the stamp graded and appraised when I get it back but I am not sure how to go about finding a qualified appraiser or how to know what would be a fair price for the service. I live in Colorado Springs but as with other specialized services there are not a number of listings in the phone book. I have searched the internet but to no avail. I HAVE found a good number of appraisers advertised for collections, but not for an individual stamp. Would anyone here be able to point me in the right direction. Thank you much for the help.

Whether or not the stamp is worth getting appraised or graded might well depend on what the results of the APS certification are. Can you tell us how you identified the stamp by catalog number when you submitted it?

Agreed, we need more info on the stamp. For example, recommendations for a Washington/Franklin would be different than a Revenue stamp.

Thank you for the response gentlemen.
I have submitted a number of stamp on the "quick ID" section of the website. This is the first one they had recommended I have "expertized". The stamp is a 332 or a 375 on a cover. I did not want to remove it from the cover to check the watermark since the cover has the cancel on it. I have uploaded the photo I submitted. When I checked this with the color chart, it is possible it might be a lake color. But that is well beyond my limited knowledge. I agree with Dudley on not being to worried about doing an appraisal until I have results back. I was only trying to see who might be around my neck of the woods if I needed them. Thanks again for the help.

Unless the image is very poor it is not close to lake, which is a very dark shade.

I am sure the various US experts here will tell you this item is 'worth' less than 1 USD - so exploring for an appraiser makes little sense.

In addition, this stamp must be a 332, since the 375 was not issued until November 23, 1910.

Sorry. I forgot the second part of Dudleys question. I submitted the stamp about a week ago. So results I won't expect to see for a month or more.

Thanks again gentlemen. Revcollector. I am working out of a 2013 Scott catalogue. Haw did you find the issue date of November 23, 1910. That would be good information if I could find it. I don't see it in the older catalogue.

One other thing. I am back to my original reason for the post. Does anyone here know where I might find information on someone in the Colorado area that is qualified to grade and appraise single stamps.

And one more time.. Thanks a million for all the help. You folks are great to help out!!

An appraiser will most likely wish to be compensated for their time. You can scan high resolution images and post them here and get free appraisals. If you have some quality items you can ge t great advice here on how to proceed. You'd be amazed at the amount of knowledge here.

Worktel2, I have a Scott 1987 specialized catalog and the date of issue is printed in cursive on the same line as the Scott number

Thanks Peter. I think the difference must be between the "standard" catalogue and the specialized. I will see if I can find a specialized. The year is there but not the full issue date.
Thanks again.
