Hello everyone.

I recently purchased a little collection of Irish Stationery.

This cover was included.

It is the Postage Due issue of March 20, 1978. Baile Atha Cliath. probably better know by most as Dublin.

These postage due fdc covers were not officially allowed by Irish Post.

Only examples of stamps actually used for postage due on the first date of issue were.

This object is not what I collect. So I want o sell it.

Problem is, I have no idea of its value.

What would be a fair number? Category: priced to sell.

Thank you for your help.

Johan.

Johan, I would simply look at the used price for each of these, add them up, add a small sum for them being on cover (say, €10, as it's an unaddressed cover but it is first day of issue) and call this the sale price!

My catalogue doesn't go as far as the 1978 issues, so I can't help with the catalogue value.

Thank you Tim.

Using the used catalogue value as a guide makes the most sense.

Kinds regards,

Johan.

Considering the invalid usage, it is either worth more - or less because technically it is cancelled to order.

I would put it up for sale on ebay at a low price and hope that someone fights over it.

Gibbons (2011) prices a used set of three stamps at £20.
The current catalogue of an Irish stamp dealer prices a used set of three at Euros 12.50.
The cancellation looks like the GPO cancellation from "upstairs" in the Philatelic Section.
My experience of the "decimal" postage dues is that they are not usually cancelled at all. If cancelled it is usually with a heavy "crayon". Getting genuinely "used" postage dues is a problem. I solved my problem by buying mint sets, sticking them on an envelope and using a crayon to cancel them myself.
A naïve way to do it...but problem solved.
