I have this stampless cover and I would like to know more about it. What country is it from? What does it read? Anything else that can be said about it would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Robert

To Salerno, in fhe Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, just before its incorporation in the new Italian kingdom.

Hi Robert,

My Italian isn't fabulous but I'd say the horizontal single line handstamp would translate to 'ON SERVICE'.

Perdifumo is a town in Salerno. The third line of the address looks like 'private citizen in'.

A very interesting cover and I hope this helps a bit

In the cancellations, GEN is the abbreviation for Gennaio which is January in English. It was mailed on January 11, 1960 and arrived in the city of Salerno on January 12, 1860. The town name around the top of the upper cancellation is too fuzzy on my monitor to read clearly but could it be PRIGNANO? Prignano is a small town in the Province of Salerno and the one day travel time in the dates suggests that it would not have traveled very far to the city of Salerno. the oval marking at the bottom left reads "AMMINISTRAZIONE COMUNALE PERDIFUMO" which means it is from the administration (government) of the Commune of Perdifumo which is one of the communes in the Province of Salerno. A Commune in the term used for what in the US or most English speaking countries as town or municipality, so this letter was sent by someone at a local town hall to a private citizen.

I read the second and third lines as the title of a (or the) senior government official of the province:

"Intendente della Provincia di Principato Citeriore".

or Intendant of the Province of Principato Citeriore.

Principato Citeriore was the province of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies that included Salerno.

"Intendant" was a term used by the Bourbon governments for various senior state officials.

I'm guessing here this is basically the governor of the province.

Ooops - typo alert. I meant 1860, not 1960. :)
