Due to the quality control of the era, you will encounter examples of 1st issue revenue margin stamps where portions of the sheet margin imprint gets included within the perforated area of the stamp, hence "captured".

This is different from a margin imprint single, which simply has the margin selvage still attached to the stamp.

Margin imprint captures are quite collectible and you will encounter reconstructions of complete margin imprints across multiple stamps, but you rarely encounter complete imprint captures still intact and not separated.

On some of the larger denomination 1st issue revenues, you can sometimes find examples with the largest portion of the imprint captured, like the one below, which is easier to find than intact strips of the small-denomination stamps preserving multiple sections of the imprint:

So when I spotted the following document on ebay, I just had to have it. It has the complete Butler & Carpenter imprint capture across a strip of 5 (no plate number, as that was located at the bottom left corner of the sheet, away from the B&C imprint).

Twould be nice if there was just a bit more of the imprint showing, but beggars can't be choosers.

I assume each stamp was cancelled based on the lines on the document and that is why each has different initials?

Both 2 cent bank check stamps also have double transfers at the bottom. Not the major catalog listed one, but a smaller type.

Rusty,

Look closely at your R44c. It caused me to look at mine above, and they both appear to exhibit a double transfer in the margin imprint, doubling of P and D.

Good eye, Dan. Once you point it out it's clearly there, but I never spotted the DT.
