The first part (1847 - 1940) will be ready for download no later than this weekend. I did not like the way I was doing the stamp images. The lighter stamps colors (yellow/oranges/rose) vs dark colors (blue/black) did not convert to grey scale nicely. When I printed the pages out, the images looked to varied across the page. So I went back to the drawing board and figure out how to normalize the color image conversion to grey scale. The stamp images now look more consistent. Don |

Those albums look great Don - excellent work. A wise move to not fall foul of Scott from the outset.
Even removing the Scott numbers from Bill Weston's albums was not good enough for Amos, the images files were named by Scott number and even though the Scott number did not appear in the final output Amos insisted on all images being renamed as well. Clive

Hi Clive, I have the foundation in place to add an external data source that would populate the catalog numbers of the user's choice. So in other words, when the user goes to print the file, they could point the data connection to another file (i.e. XML, CSV, etc.) and it would automatically populate every stamp.
That way, which catalog numbers used are up to the user. I would supply a template for the data file, users could enter whatever catalog numbers they preferred. No copyright issues with this approach! (The PDF have no catalog numbers, only the capability for users to add their own!)
I have the proof of concept done and working, but will need to do a fair amount of work to get it fully implemented. Don

Very nice job Don!
Can't wait to put together an album.
How would we acquire the other files for the numbering system? |

The numbering system feature is something for the future, I only have a basic proof of concept working now and there are some issues which need to be resolved. (Like the PDF has to be released as a Dynamic XML form and these are not supported by every PDF reader.) I wanted to make sure it could be done before investing hundreds of hours into this format.
My plan is to first release the other sections of US; airmail section is being finished up now and should be published in next few weeks. I am targeting the end of this year to have all the US pages done. Don |
