I was green with envy (inspired) reading Winston's thread about his 3 cent with green cancel.
This is one of the must have items, in my opinion, for a 1851-57 3 Cent collection.

Very nice.
I definitely agree that one would want that in any pretty decent 3c collection.
Good going.

Do you have the 1855, or better yet 1853 year date CDS's ?
If you don't want to pay the money for the 1853 one, start with 1855. They are harder than one might think to find, but quite obtainable if you look.

Winston, yes thank you. I could have had a different stamp, an 11A four margins green grid, but the Macon, GA leaves no doubt about it being an authentic green cancel.
I didn't doubt the grid was real, I'm thinking of my grandson years from now, I think the Macon, Ga will show better in the album.

tx, I keep my eyes open for the 1853, so I'm certain I don't have one. The 1855 though...I'll get back to you.

Good deal.
They aren't rare, but they are orders of magnitude scarcer than 1856 and thereon.

This one's a tough sell... Being a ratty looking stamp, I thought the only reason someone had mounted it was they knew it was 1853 CDS... ??

The main 53 YD is the NYC one coincident with the Crystal Palace debut.

It is well known and is not this.

tx, thanks! It is now known to me also. That's why I enjoy this sight.
I've read a bit about the Crystal Palace, but didn't pickup on the 1853 CDS. Still much to learn and that's part of the joy.

Here are two examples - use Siegel's image magnifier to see them better, but they show it well. Lot 2054 sale 784.

Yes, the 1853 dated cancel is one of my favorites. I even have a rubber stamp replica I use on envelopes when writing to various collectors, etc.

BTW--Is that green cancel on a '51 OB or is it an early BC? Somewhere in the ancient archives is a listing of the source (city/town) of all known green cancels along with dates of use. Green's on OB are much scarcer than the garden variety 3c stamp.

AJ, It's an OB but I haven't plated it. At first blush I'd say it compares to the Plate 1i stamps that I have. But...and I always like to mention this, I haven't been at this long enough to trust my eye ball appraisals.
I will post some better pics later today, maybe we can get some plate opinions here.
