I wanted to start a topic with a genuine question about how useful a certain online swapping site was. Every time I tried to post it, however, I received the following message:
Sorry, You are trying to post something that is prohibited.
This could be, but not limited to, a website or service that has spammed us in the past or is not family friendly.
Important: It's actually sad that we have to say this but unfortunately we do. This does not mean it's ok to come up with a way around the block. It's not ok to give exact words to search on Google, misspell it, or come up with any other way to get around the block. Any attempt to get around this block could, and most likely will, result in immediate banning from the forum."
I understand the wish to punish spammers, but now we can't even discuss the site. Any way around this? Thanks.
No, there is only a handful of sites which are blocked. They are blocked because they have previously spammed our community and/or broke the rules. Don
If you haven't already, search for the name here or google it. If you don't find much then its probably not worth your time. (I have no idea which site you are referring to, but I don't sell or trade online)
Probably this is unrealistic but it'd be nice to know who's been blacklisted on here. It's very frustrating to spend time working on a post only to have it tossed because you innocently mentioned some forbidden word. That happened to me a few months back, turned out I'd just made a passing reference by name to a certain purveyor of software who is on that list.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about, S1962.
Maybe there should be a statute of limitations on those bans. An overzealous start-up might spam the forum thinking that's what they have to do to get their business started. Since then, they may have become upstanding members of the philatelist community.
And really that's what I was trying to ask in the first place: whether an "unmentionable" site was a good one to use or not.
