Was starting to go through my map stamps and came across this Scott 85b with a couple of vertical and horizontal frame lines that just seemed out of place. Sent it to my friend Ralph at re-entries.com to see what he thinks. ANY OPINIONS..?

Robert, all mine have some sort of reading, in the same areas, to me, looks like intended shading of the rope, Yours however, appear straight, as if the shading was wearing and they have just drawn straight lines to compensate. Your colour blue and black are quite striking.
Interested to hear the response.

But you also over-saturated paper, the trick is to over-saturate the color but not the paper! |

Don,i was sitting here thinking...You run Stampsmarter http://www.stampsmarter.com/index.htmlI am impressed with what you have done with this site..Wondering as we know nothing can replace twizzors and a magnifying glass..but your site might be a great place to capture software that would enhance the hobby of stamp collecting. As you know I have a list of software I use and I KNOW you have some to..Would it be stupid to include these programs with written PDFs on how to use them..?..Your site is a good fit. Just a thought Don. Robert |

Great idea Robert, I would be happy to publish any article on using software that is useful to a hobbyist. Tips, tricks, and even general helpful instruction would all be appreciated by many folks who might not be 'techie'. Don |

Wert. These lines in the cables on the map stamps are retouches where straight lines have been used to reinforce the cables. These are often very noticeable. Retouches to the bottom and right cables are the most frequent. Your stamp shows two lines in the bottom cable and one in the left cable. There is also some reinforcement at the bottom of the right cable. Your stamp is likely to be position 98 from black plate 2 and red plate A. While the retouched cables are relatively common, your stamp also features a prominent scratch (or perhaps centre guideline) above Australia and a nice arc line that sticks out into the left margin. These arcs were used to layout the plate and are also very common, but yours is a nice strong one. These features are illustrated in the image below. Cheers! |
